May 15, 2005 - Upgrading WP

I finally took the plunge and upgraded WordPress to 1.5.1. That necessitated finding the little hacks I put in. In particular (I'm writing this here so I can find it next time), in wp-include/default-filters.php, I remove the wpautop from the_content and the_excerpt. This causes these pages to be displayed with the html in them. Could be dangerous but the html is filtered when it's entered so the problem is minimal. Someday I'll submit a change that will allow specifying whether the comment should be formatted. This was one feature I really missed from MovableType -- the ability to mark individual entries with a format or not flag.

Anyway, I'm upgraded so now I get to figure out how to handle all these new features.

May 3, 2005 - Joe job

For anyone visiting this site to find out why I'm sending viruses around the net, it looks like this domain name is included in some virus package and there seem to be several zombies sending out viruses with a "From:" line pointing to this domain. It's usually from somebody "@misterblue.com".

Needless to say, it's not me. Curse all you virus writers. You make the world miserable for the rest of us for a minimal, short-term benefit for yourself. What selfish dolts.

Ever drive down the highway and think about all the stone that makes up the road? Think of it -- the highway is miles long and nearly a foot thick. Think of how many mountains of rock were dug up and amd trucked around.

If you go flying much, you do see missing mountains. Around every major city, there is at least one hole where a hill used to be.

There were plays at my son's school tonight. They are excellent actors. And, it's hard to pull off a scene with an ice pick in your head.

Apr 17, 2005 - Pumping Ads

:MBPIC:20050400-Misc:IMG_7050.jpg:picLeft:

You people in the rest of the United States probably won't believe it, but, here in Oregon, we don't pump our own gas. Yes, we sit in our car and a trained Fuel Technician puts the gas in our cars. In fact, it is illegal for people to pump their own gas.

On my trip to New York , I had to refill the rental car and there, on the pump handle was an ad. Service stations are getting like athletic stadiums: every flat surface is covered with advertisements (although, stadiums have most things beat with those rotating ad panels so they can get more than one ad on a surface.)

And this gas station ad wasn't for a gas additive or similar. It was for spam software. Just what I'm thinking of when I'm pumping gas.
