Dec 6, 2003 - Local Police are Busy

Never said being a policeman was easy. This weeks local reports include the following sure-to-be-on "Cops" items:

  • A dead squirrel was found in the roadway near the intersection of Knaus Road and Timberline Drive.
  • A resident received a suspicious piece of mail.
  • A McVey/South Shore area resident says someone cut a coupon out of the coupons she received in the mail.
  • A resident of the Springbrook Park neighborhood called police to report that her ex-husband was at her house, intoxicated, and planning to eat a live lobster as part of some kind of satanic ritual. Police were unable to contact the woman, but met with the ex-husband in question. No word on the lobster.

Dec 1, 2003 - Pictures up

I've been lazy with the computer jobs but I finally got the pictures up. There are pictures of the Turkey Trot (a run on Thanksgiving morning to run off what we will eat later) and Thanksgiving at Grandma's .

Now I'd better get back to cleaning the house. I need to get the livingroom together so we can have ChristmasCam again.

It is a great failing to dream of power without making an effort.

Nov 27, 2003 - Day of Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

We've already done the Turkey Trot (a four miler from the zoo to the Rose Garden and back) and I've mashed the potatoes for Thanksgiving day dinner at Grandma's. Pictures will be up tonight.

Don't eat too much.

Nov 22, 2003 - Up in Smoke

I came home from work early so I could sit at my computer and just type without the distractions of the work place. I was sitting, typing when I heard a "pop". Sounded like a pop gun. Odd. I looked around. I looked outside the window. Nothing there. Well, back to work.

A few minutes later, the computer started going "found new hardware", "hardware disconnected", "found new hardware", "hardware disconnected" with beeps and bells and the little popup from the toolbar. I was scratching my head over this when I noticed smoke. Smoke!! White billowy smoke coming out of the back of the PC chassis!! ACK!!! I jump under the table and unplug the computer.

I'm not sure exactly what happened. The "pop" could have been one of the much discussed reports of bad capacitors on motherboards and some of the capacitor are bulging and leaking . But the smoke came from my ATI All-In-Wonder card melting itself into it's AGP socket . Serious short circuilt.

Well, off to get a new motherboard. Look out of you have a motherboard from 2002.
